…lots to see !
La Cordonnerie is in the middle of a fascinating area of France. Close by are the villages of Penne and Bruniquel, with their spectacular clifftop castles, and Vaour with its Knights Templar fortress. The mediaeval town of St Antonin Noble Val, 10 minutes drive away, has narrow winding streets, historic buildings and a famous Sunday market.
Less than an hour’s drive away are the ancient cities of Albi, Cahors and Montauban, each with excellent museums and galleries, magnificent cathedrals, good shopping and fine dining. The hilltop towns of Carcassonne and St Cirq la Popie are great for a day trip – and if you would like a stroll in the Pyrenees, or to dip a toe into the Mediterranean, it will only take you about 4 hours to get there.
Wine buffs will enjoy visiting the splendid chateax of the Gaillac area, the vineyards well-known to the Romans but now a well-kept secret. It’s about 10 minutes drive from La Cordonnerie to our favourite, Chateau Bourguet. For a little variety, the vineyards of Fronton and Cahors are just down the road.
The classic dishes of the southwest are based on duck, and the area has a great range of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets.
